cartology

skin
carries the geography of significance & sorrow
to compare, define & ascend
how to erase the trail of a touch?
the cut of realization?
the tracks of the spark & the knowing?
... a path, a mark, a line, a pull - a scar
how is it that the grey, the snow and the bite of winter make it deeper
raw & bruised
there is an ache for the melt & a return of warm winds
to round the edges, shift the foundation
bind the wound
draw the map
trace the contours of connection with a sharp pencil of redwood
shade with pearl
color the valleys in myrtle & emerald
consider the water
outline its phenomenology in blue
leave space
acknowledge the groove
wait for the golden glow

{we the people}

no words will rise today as blackbirds
wintering
soft gray the sky
void of cadence and cusp
soft gray this morning
a chance of rain
no song, no rhyme
as grace laps at shores
hearts folded into
our ancestors blue
with
youth
and yesterday...
sunlight has gathered her skirts
taking to fields distant
in search of silence, truth & pages
felted with possibility
as shining sorrow swells--bursting
under one sky
this morning ...
where no blackbirds rise

board games

peace is sometimes found unexpectedly
strength is discovered in the lack
and
action is found in the not doing
risk is found in the staying
and
faith is found in the warmth of knowing who you are in the chaos of your days
when one spends their life going deep
feeling too much
talking too much
and
loving fiercely
sometimes
when one is not looking - truth sneaks up
and bites you on the ass
in shallow simplicity
and
sheer brilliance
action is found in the none action
in staying - sticking the landing
waiting veiled in the sureness
this space ....
this space.
hold fast
loving regardless
don't write a manifesto
shed ego
gamble your significance tenderly
roll the dice
and
go to the next place on the board
breathe
knowing love is found in Candy Land
not in Kierkegaard or Ayn Rand
Candy Land

of melt

of blood to heart to limb to land
green to gold as glass and sand
become we tender
sun to night
moonlit night
from field fallow to fields gold
it takes but a moment
a story told
to sleeping earth and channel dry
the heavens weep for sorrow's sigh
become we strive to evermore
become undone
of
dust and lore

betwixt

Capricorn golden, amaranth & kasbah blue
sounding strangely like a meadowlark's song
searching i am
for
something  . .
as I dervish wildly;
slicing the fragments of my bindings
whirling madly waiting for the collateral damage & blood
just when i believed all secrets & paradigms were caged. . .
I catch the scent of some mystery, some truth still buried
illusive & teasing. . .
tolerance adapts : leaving me numb - resigned
until the warmth of that shine and the richness of that song nudge the hollowness
and
I
dance
scouting & revealing
love's
trust
&
truth

a walk in the woods on a winter morn

felted marshmallows lie upon my tongue thick
as a peregrine's wings
white-gold to blue to crimson shining
brambles of turkish delight weave about the
woodland
dangerous & tempting
as a cherry pie
come! come!
we require a rescuer
a savior
disguised as a bumblebee
with mighty horns of opalescent silver
come!
Oh, what tales we'll tell of this dark time
what bridges we will build to worlds awaiting
come!
upon my feet--
raven feathers cling to yesterday
hesitant
savoring the sweetness of memory
viscid
and
blue jay'd
(age does that)
(wisdom listens)
come!
lean upon my blackberry shoulders
rubus occidentalis
walk with me through
thicket & stone to taste
the salted sea
this coolness of a winter morning
come!
this drala path
this tender journey home ...
come!

whisper song

Goldfinches sing against the sun
breath of light-yellow-pausing
the chatter of nuthatches
to this blue-jay-morning
trembling tenacious life
always brimming
singing
of this bright new day
of the shimmering-solstice-sun
